Short Update 20 June 2009

Date 20 Jun, 2009 | Category X5 System Update, Bug and Maintenance

Dear member

I, James wants to give short update of what X5 will do to previous embarrasment with server down.

I have discussed with X5 Board Management and we are decided in the following action;

* Invested large amount of financial into Redundancy and Back Up Server

* Added load balance and infrastructure to current X5 Server

* Running further optimization in the following weeks.

* Double the current memory server to cope with $1 Promo

We have evaluate the $1 Promo listings still effecting the capacity of the server.

I have submitted quotation and proposal to infrastructure server management to carry out back up server and redundancy Server in the coming 2 weeks.

For the sake, all paid listings has been pull back one weeks in case any incident might occur.

I still hold up X5 Inventory and X5 Satellite with X5 YouTube as I want to ensure your enjoyment at X5.com.au.

We have invested substantial amount of infrastructure in the last  4 weeks and we are now tripled the fund to support the growth.

Unfortunately X5 listings are run at minimal but we are still fully supported all X5 Reseller and all delivery system.

X5 appreciate all members that keep submitting any slowness or hiccuph at X5.

Without you we will not be able to find out the glitch.

James

1. Xot (20 Jun, 2009 - 20:36)

Thanks X5 for keeping us all updated will X5 process and progress. Good luck with everything and well done. Keep up the great work.

2. Ngoc (20 Jun, 2009 - 20:38)

Thanks James for leting us know what been happening with X5. Good to know what X5 plan to do to improve the site. Hope all goes well and keep up the great work

3. Ngoc (20 Jun, 2009 - 20:42)

Thanks for the update. Promo items still causing X5 problems, hopefully doubling the server memory will fix it. Good luck with it. Hope to get the chance to win a $1 promo item too. Keep up the hard work and should get there in the end.

4. Ngoc (20 Jun, 2009 - 20:46)

By the way is Gold Rush still around? Haven't seen any from the start and hope to be lucky one day. Where is it suppose to pop up now. Still on the bottom of the screen or in the new announced place of in banners. Hope to find out. Thanks X5 for the great dedication to keeping members happy.

5. Ngoc (20 Jun, 2009 - 20:51)

I feel X5 has done a fanastic job with the site and should not feel embarrased or sorry. Everything goes through hiccups every now and then and all that can be done is to try and fix it. So like most things in life all we need to do is wait and be patient. Good things come in the end to those that wait.

6. Ngoc (20 Jun, 2009 - 21:01)

Great idea X5 with postponing paid listing for a week. This will be better to make sure auctions can be bidded on and not missed. Also so members don't lose money because they couldn't access the auction. Really looking forward to and can't wait for X5 to launch X5 inventory & X5 Satellite with X5 YouTube, I'm ready and waiting to see how it all going to look like and work. Keep up the excellent work and hope all server maintenance run smooth for future launches to finally start.

7. Ben (20 Jun, 2009 - 21:12)

Thanks X5 for the update. Hope the actions X5 plan on undertaking helps. Good luck with it all and keep up the great work.

8. Adelle (20 Jun, 2009 - 23:02)

Ngoc, yes gold rush is still there. I didn't believe it until I actually saw my first one last week! I was so excited to finally see one. They mustn't appear very often though. Keep looking!!

9. Adelle (20 Jun, 2009 - 23:03)

Thanks for keeping us updated with progress. Hope it all comes together soon.

10. Adelle (20 Jun, 2009 - 23:06)

Anytime I see anything unusual on x5 I report it so the x5 tech team can sort it out and solve the problem. So if we all do that, x5 will be running smoothly in no time!! I admired their dedication and committment to this site-thanks

11. Sue (20 Jun, 2009 - 23:08)

The screen still does a little jump when viewing items on the auction site. Making it difficult to click on the item I want to check out, I usually end up clicking the item above. So I then have to go back and try to click the right one! Not a major problem, but annoying. Just a small glitch.

12. Sue (20 Jun, 2009 - 23:10)

Bidding seems to be working well tonight. No lag, accepts bids fine. Speed between sites also seems to be back to normal. Good work X5 Team!

13. Sue (20 Jun, 2009 - 23:17)

Will you be having more items in the $1 Promo site? How long do you expect to run the Promo site for? I'm looking forward to seeing some new items to bid on----hopefuuly very soon!

14. Sue (20 Jun, 2009 - 23:19)

PS What has happened to the 'Gold Rush'? I haven't seen it ever!! Not the old one or the new one. Has it started yet, and what does it look like?

15. Robyn (21 Jun, 2009 - 07:16)

These things happen, no matter how hard you try to avoid them. I just hope that all works out soon.

16. Dennis (21 Jun, 2009 - 11:30)

It has been mentioned quite a few times before but it would be nice if the total of winning and not winning was actually correct, like mine at present says winning 1 and I am not and not winning 3 but I only have 1, just a little problem but it needs to be fixed

17. Joe (21 Jun, 2009 - 13:07)

Thanks for the info X5. It is good you keep us updated. I guess with so many members wanting to win the $1 promo item will explain the server going down and sometimes crashing. Hope you all the luck with the above mentioned actions. Keep up the hard work x5.

18. Joe (21 Jun, 2009 - 13:17)

I'm still having that problem with not being able to post a comment in the blog when using IE. I have now downloaded FIREFOX and have no problems. Thanks James for the advice.

19. Joe (21 Jun, 2009 - 13:22)

Good to hear paid items will be put on hold for a week to avoid anyone losing money from not being able to bid. At the moment all seems to be running good, haven't experienced any slowness or errors yet. Hope it continues for X5 YouTube to be launched. Looking forward to it seeing new items to bid on. Keep up the great job X5 team.

20. matt (21 Jun, 2009 - 13:46)

Thank you for the work you have put in to counter the server crashes, everybody is extremely frustrated, but this should improve the situation, thanks again, Matt

21. Melinda (21 Jun, 2009 - 13:48)

I agree entirely with Ngoc in the statement above (No. 5) and thank you for all your hard work and for keeping us informed of what you are doing. It is so refreshing to find such dedication in treating members with respect and concern. I hope all the new infrastructure works well and gives you what you are after. Will inform you of any problems encountered.

22. Terri (21 Jun, 2009 - 18:19)

I had a problem trying to log on today. It was a few hours before I could get in to the site. However I did & it now seems to be alright. Thank you for keeping us informed.

23. sherrie (21 Jun, 2009 - 19:29)

thanks for the update, its nice to belong to a site that really cares about us.

24. Benn (21 Jun, 2009 - 20:28)

Thanks for the hard work you are all putting in. Its frustrating to all, but glad that steps are being taken to minimise future downtime.

25. Benn (21 Jun, 2009 - 20:33)

Is it worth suspending the $1 dollar promos? i know its nice to have, but if it is affecting the paid auctions, then i'd prefer to take the promos away.

26. Ngoc (21 Jun, 2009 - 21:33)

Thanks Adelle for letting me know Gold Rush still exist. Is it still in the same place or has it moved? I also agree with Benn about it's great to reward members with $1 promo items but probably be better if X5 doesn't have them if they seem to cause so much drama every time. As I believe X5 will still be fun and great to visit with all those other fantastic items X5 have on offer to bid on. Thanks X5 for all the help.

27. Sue (21 Jun, 2009 - 21:35)

If it's causing all these problems trying to make the site bigger for overseas bidders, wouldn't it be easier to keep this site for us Aussies, (or maybe a few closer countries as well) and have a seperate site for Europe, America etc.? That way your sites should work better, and we won't be over-run with thousands of overseas bidders(there's far more of them than us!)making it almost impossible for us to win. I like 'our' local X5 site as it is, or how it was, without so many problems.

28. Xot (21 Jun, 2009 - 22:17)

Looking forward to new items too. Have noticed items up for bidding now are very limited. Hopefully X5 is getting ready to launch X5 Inventory ans Satellite. So exciting, can't wait.

29. Xot (21 Jun, 2009 - 22:20)

As for the server crash, it happened to the best of us and can't be helped. Hopefully all is good from now. I haven't seen a gold rush not once either. Guess it's kind of good to know I'm not the only one not see it. Thanks X5 for the hard work, keep it up.

30. christine (22 Jun, 2009 - 10:48)

i agree with sue (27) lets keep "our" site for "aussies" and have a seperate site for all other countries. sue is right there are more of them than us. x5 is a great site keep it up.

31. Jo Ann (22 Jun, 2009 - 14:58)

I have not logged in or placed bids frequently as I did, in the past fortnight due to technical hitches. Going global is extremely big. Good luck X5, as a dedicated Aussie user, hpe all is soon smooth sailing for you and the bidders. Today, 22nd June no problems with any of the pages at 2.45AEST.

32. Dennis (22 Jun, 2009 - 15:00)

All seems to be working okay again, maybe everyone has been to busy doing that to answer messages sent through the inbox messages.

33. kevin (22 Jun, 2009 - 23:18)

Hi X5ers I agree with Sue maybe X5 should consider just staying in auzzie. So we dont get flooded. Thanks for keeping us updated, I no ive tryed to log in a few times and just couldnt get in S o i havnt even bothered to try for a while.

34. Andrew (23 Jun, 2009 - 08:18)

X5 I only seem to ever write to tell you about something that is wrong so thought I’d just take some time to let you know that I appreciate all your efforts and that your doing such an amazing job. I have had multiple personal responses to my queries and realize the time that this must take. It obviously shows how committed you guys are to your members which is a big change from the usual web based companies. Thank you for all your hard work and effort

35. RONALD (23 Jun, 2009 - 08:59)

SPIDEREX> WELL I'M GONNA THROW A SPANNER IN THE WORKS!!!IF THE SERVER IS WORKING SO WELL,HOW COME I CAN'T GET AN EMAIL--X5 CREDIT IS NOT RIGHT--FOR AGES NOW--WHAT ABOUT REFUNDS--NONE!!!!!!!!!

36. Eric (23 Jun, 2009 - 09:44)

G'day again X5 - its been too hard just trying to log on lately and bid on stuff, I've even had to let some VC expire...(hate that!) - but its far more important to get this site back to a pleasure instead of a trial, so I appreciate all the hard work going on. My thoughts are with you and your team James - good luck with getting it sorted mate. Cheers, Eric.

37. belinda (23 Jun, 2009 - 16:00)

thankyou for the update hope all goes well now

38. Adelle (23 Jun, 2009 - 16:25)

I would love to see some new free to bid products now. I am so bored with whats on offer the last few days. thankyou x5!

39. Ngoc (23 Jun, 2009 - 19:39)

Great to see all seems to be working good. Haven't had any errors or slowness at all. Good work X5 must have done something right. Keep it up.

40. Ngoc (23 Jun, 2009 - 19:46)

Happy to see X5 has slowly started to launch X5 Comments and Youtube. Looking forward to see X5 Inventory being launched to bid on what new items are coming. Great work guys, keep us updated and all the luck for the future of X5.

41. Ngoc (23 Jun, 2009 - 19:48)

One problem I'm having is when I tried to click on to watch one of the X5 YouTube videos but it didn't load. A video window opened but when I selected play I was told there's an error and to try again later. Just wondering if this is correct or is it because the videos are not yet ready to be viewed. I'll send x5 screen shot of what happens.

42. Ngoc (23 Jun, 2009 - 20:30)

I am also thinking the same as Dennis (comment 32). There has been a long delay with replies to messages sent through X5 Inbox. Maybe it's due to the hard work from new server set-up or because of problems with server crashing X5 team has placed all there concentration on fixing the site problems before attending to members enquires. I understand sometimes X5 may take a while to reply to a message but I guess the important thing is that in the end I do get an answer.

43. erika (23 Jun, 2009 - 20:52)

are you receiving my messages as i haven't received any answers back blondlips

44. Benn (23 Jun, 2009 - 21:08)

I also agree with Sue. If it becomes harder to win because of the flood of overseas bidders, you will end up losing the Aussie bidders - unless you have a few of the same popular items to bid on?

45. Xot (23 Jun, 2009 - 21:15)

All seems to be running good now. Hope it stays like this. Noticed there is very little to bid on compared to usual. Whats going on? When will the new items be listed to members to bid. Really looking forward to seeing what hthose handbags are going to look like.

46. Xot (23 Jun, 2009 - 21:17)

I also would like to know if gold rush still around. Haven't seen one ever. Thanks X5 for keeping us updated. Keep up the great work.

47. Dennis (23 Jun, 2009 - 23:28)

Site seems to be running okay but must agree with a lot of the other statements that X5 should keep it in Oz at least until the site is running smoothly and all glitches are fixed. Winning and not winning totals are still incorrect and X5 have not made a statement about this problem. Also when is the relief package going to happen and what is it, will there be any real compensation for items lost because of all the problems?

48. christine (24 Jun, 2009 - 10:13)

i was looking at all the comments and agree with adelle(38)boring items, xot(45)&(46)not much to bid on & where is goldrush, never seen it. and dennis(47)winning & losing totals still not fixed. otherwise happy with the site so i keep coming back. thanks for a great site x5.

49. Eric (24 Jun, 2009 - 11:23)

Hey guys - sorry to report but the system is running in slow motion today (around 11am Bris time), taking ages to lodge bids and even display pages. Also, could not get the "YouTube" feature to work on item 124559154808, some running shoes. Good luck sorting these dramas!!

50. Dennis (24 Jun, 2009 - 13:20)

SUGGESTION. Many of X5er's have mentioned the high cost of your handling fee. I received 4 items today all in 1 package for a total cost of $100 which is outrageous. Maybe if you can't or won't do a multiple item rate you could give us virtual credit that does not expire so we can bid on something good when we have accumulated sufficient credit. Happy customers means good business.

51. Joe (24 Jun, 2009 - 13:46)

24/06/2009 1.30pm: Site seems to be running slow at the moment. Pages are taking a while to load. I guess the main thing is that they are loading and I'm not getting any errors. X5 must be really busy trying to fix the site first before replying to inquires.

52. Joe (24 Jun, 2009 - 13:51)

Not much to bid on at the moment but I guess it's important to get the site up and running smoothly first. I'm excited to see when I log in and get a big surprise with a whole lot of the new items promised. Can't wait. Good luck with sorting out everything. Keep up the hard work and all should work out.

53. Joe (24 Jun, 2009 - 13:55)

I also would like to know what has happened with the Gold Rush. Like how Ngoc asked will it be in banners or still at the bottom of a random page. Hope to see one either way soon.

54. Brett (24 Jun, 2009 - 18:03)

Any further update for us? There are no new products in the areas i am looking, so was just wondering are we still a week away etc from being back to normal? Appreciate you guys are working hard on it, but any update would be great. Thanks

55. Benn (24 Jun, 2009 - 18:11)

Seems we are about 4 days away from being back to normal, judging by the 'time remaining' the items ending soon. Hope it happens soon. I'd say there must be a lot of others out there just waiting.

56. Sue (24 Jun, 2009 - 22:29)

Gave up last night trying to check auction site, everything seemed so slow, but I shall try again tonight and let you know how I go, before I lose my virtual credits.

57. Sue (24 Jun, 2009 - 22:46)

Well my bids went on ok, no lag or error pages. We'll see what tomorrow brings!!

58. Sue (24 Jun, 2009 - 22:51)

I also wanted to comment on Ngoc (No 41), statement about the item video's not working, I can't even find an icon for video's! What does it look like and where did you see it Ngoc? You've made me curious. I only found boxes for peoples comments on items.

59. Tania (25 Jun, 2009 - 18:30)

Thanks X5 for the update. I haven't log on for a while now, since the last maintence i think, and wasn't aware of the crash. Sure it would have been frustrating and hard for all. As it usually is when the site is experiencing problems. But I see now all seems to be running ok maybe a bit slow.

60. Tania (25 Jun, 2009 - 18:35)

Thanks X5 for keeping us members informed. It is always good to know what's happening and what X5 intend to do to fix any problems that may come up. Hope all runs smoothly and it all works out. Keep up the hard work and like what one of the other members said about how good things come to those that wait. I agree

61. Tania (25 Jun, 2009 - 18:42)

I also think if $1 promo items are causing most of the problems then they should be put on hold or maybe even stopped all together until it can be worked out how to cope with them. Great to read that ending time for paid items have been increased as no one wants to waste or lose anymore money from slowness and not being able to access the site to bid. Great ideas and good job X5.

62. Tania (25 Jun, 2009 - 18:45)

Not many items up for bid at the moment. Hope to see more soon. Also will be great to see X5 Inventory and Satellite be launched. I believe X5 has already started with a comments section in item descriptions. Gold rush no where to be seen.

63. Ngoc (25 Jun, 2009 - 19:59)

Site was running slow today. Happy to see some more items being listed for auction. I guess X5 will be launching thw new shipment items soon. Can't wait to see that, looking forward to the surprise. Thanks X5 for all you have done. Great work.

64. Adelle (25 Jun, 2009 - 20:33)

Hi Ngoc, I only just read the blogs again. Last week I saw the gold rush at the bottom of the auctions page. It was an inch thick yellow box under the page numbers. I only stumbled across it, I wasn't actually looking for it. It didn't register at first that it was the Gold Rush button. It sunk in when I clicked and it said I had won $50VC!! I don't think they are there every day as I've only seen the one. Maybe if we plead with x5 they will give us more!!

65. Adelle (25 Jun, 2009 - 20:37)

I tend to agree with the other members about keeping x5 an auction site for 'Aussies'. Lately I've noticed it is a lot harder to win an auction. Imagine what it will be like when there are 100 times the amount of bidders. The price won't get higher (unless the item is absolutely a bargain). I think members will just give up because its too hard to win.

66. Adelle (25 Jun, 2009 - 20:41)

The only gliches I still notice are the winning/not winning displayed is totally wrong and there is still a 'jump' in the page and I often end up clicking the item above or clicking on nothing! Keep up the good work x5 team.

67. Adelle (25 Jun, 2009 - 21:00)

I think certain members need to read the two sentences to the right of the message box (when composing an email to x5). I have had no problems with getting problems sorted out (and there has been a few I must say as I have bought/won over 120 items from x5 so far!). I have perservered and have always been NICE about it!! After all who wants to reply to mail that is not nice? It also helps if you do a bit of homework and try to get proof etc of error (look up My Statement, Credit Transactions, My testimonials and send it in to x5 with a nice email).Keep smiling!!

68. christine (27 Jun, 2009 - 21:23)

hi adelle,it is hard to keep smiling when you bid on something and it puts the wrong bid on and takes all the money. even worse when you are told "you must have bid that amount" and you cannot get any refund. you can't even get a reply to emails that are sent urgently. fair go. i have reported this problem for nearly a year with no recognition and no refund. so far it has taken $96.10 in bids i did not put on. there should be a system that you can retract bids for certain reasons. then if the computor program makes a mistake you can fix it without waiting for answers from the powers that be that are not forthcoming.

69. Andrew (29 Jun, 2009 - 19:49)

The alert just under the top menu when on 'my x5' doesnt seem to to record the correct information. Say for example it says that I am losing 2 items I have bid on but if u follow the link there is usually a different number of items displayed.

70. Andrew (29 Jun, 2009 - 19:52)

Just thought I would check if I'm doing the right thing by writing my queries in the comments boxes? I cant seem to find anywhere else to write them. Perhaps a specific queries to x5 blog could be set up or a feature in itself. Let me know if such a thing already exists and I just havent found it yet. Cheers
