X5 Development Proposal updated 11 Aug 08

Date 11 Aug, 2008 | Category Announcement

Below is future development proposal. Please note, your comment and decision will come into effect in matter of days or weeks. Please consider every corner of the view in order to make X5 be the best online shopping as we are committed listening to you.

 *  Downgrading ET 10 cap extention to only ET 3. Means only maximum 3 cap of 5 minutes extension. Do you feel ET with 10 Extension help you a lot? if X5 change to only  3 caps ( 15 minutes) is that be better?.

   * Introducing Search Engine friendly that will auto correct your search, most popular search in X5 search browsing.

    * Introducing animated flash in all search result that targetted and according to your keyword search
    * Category show up at left hand side and sorted by relevancy.
    * Launching every weekend deal. What is this means. On every friday X5 will be launching 1-2 days auction to fulfill the weekends auction with most popular items, such as Wii, Ipod, etc. The auction will only have duration from Friday to Saturday or Sunday only.
    * Introducing X5 Credit bank account. Members can view their own transaction Live.
    * Did you still feel X5 loading page still slow? Which part and which pages?
    * Is the advanced bid need to be opened more than 100 bids at a time? or 200 bids range at a time is better?

Some of the changes might come into effect in   2 weeks and up to  3 months. At this announcement, ET is our main target to ensure all X5 member happy with ET feature.

Since from the statistics, most auction only used up efficiently with  3 extension, so we would love to propose up to  3 Extension only. If the response is satisfactory, the ET 3 will come into effect by end of Thursday 14 August 2008.

great site but the bid auctions take a while

2. ken (11 Aug, 2008 - 14:36)

great stuff!!!!!

3. Leanne (11 Aug, 2008 - 14:54)

X5.com.au is very slow when bidding on products are about to close you lost a couple of bids from me as I couldnt get one on. Also you need to fix your system as I have previously made comments received email to say been credited money not up on system so can use them.

4. PD (11 Aug, 2008 - 15:14)

I think reducing ET to 3 instead of 10 is an excellent idea - having 10 really drags it out. Yes, the loading page is a bit slow. I think the advanced bids is fine at a 100 - it doesn't take much to enter a second 100 if needed. Sometimes it is slow to show changes - e.g. it can say I am losing 2 bids - yet, I have renewed a bid that is now winning. Also it gives alerts sometimes when there is nothing to alert about. I have often seen "alert ... two bids needing confirmation ... yet when clicking on that alert - it goes to the page and it says nothing needs to be confirmed. I suspect the alerts bar and the win/lose circle bars are out of sync. Credit bank sounds good - but not overly necessary. the w/e auction idea sounds good. cheers PD Ryan

5. Kate (11 Aug, 2008 - 15:36)

My comments are: 1. ET 3 is fine - I don't think it really makes much of a difference anyway. 2. Weekend deal sounds like a good idea. 3. The only thing I find slow is when lots of people are bidding on an auction and the page freezes up at the wrong time (sometimes freezes up for half an hour and then it's too late to bid and you have wasted a lot of money). Otherwise the site is a lot faster than it used to be. 4. I think 100 bids at a time is too much - it's obviously what causes the site to seize up. Increasing would be a bad idea. Besides, since the new system came in the only way to win is to spend a lot of money.

6. Les (11 Aug, 2008 - 16:32)

Hi guys, (1) Definite agreement for ET 3 times. 10 times means almost an hour to wait & you may miss other auctions if you are bidding on them. (2) I don't understand search engine auto correct, more detail needed. (3) Animated flash sounds a good idea but not vital. (4) More explanation needed for "category show on left hand side. (5) Weekend auctions could backfire, many people have weekends away from home, particularly in summer. (6) Not needed in my opinion, I know how much I have left & how much I've spent (6) Impossible to give an accurate description of which pages are slow in loading, it depends on traffic & X5 badly needs bandwidth at times (7) I have been against the up to 100 bids idea, it prejudices the smaller bidder and can create total mayhem in the last few minutes of an auction, personally I prefer the earlier one bid at a time.

7. Brian (11 Aug, 2008 - 17:44)

Golfer 27 I think reducing ET to 3 is a very good idea as 10 pushes the time limit out too far. Do not change advance bids from 100, that is plenty. The area I find most frustrating as far as slow timing for opening pages is attempting to go to Lost Auctions. Sometimes this page will not open until the next day at the earliest. It is often good to find out how much I lost an auction by, particularly if I have placed a large number of bids. The weekend auction is an excellent idea. This is a great auction site and any improvements can only benefit the bidders. Brian

8. Mark (11 Aug, 2008 - 18:32)

Speeding up the pages and fixing the links to confirm auctions etc is a great idea. Removing ET all together would be a much better idea. Advanced bid is fine at 100 and the short weekend auctions are a good idea too.

9. khalil (11 Aug, 2008 - 19:07)

X5 change to only 3 caps ( 15 minutes) is the best thing)coz it save us time! x5 loading page is indeed slow!plz do something!iv lost so far more than 1000$ in biddings coz of not being able to bid in time or bid more...check my account stats and ull know. If we can make 200 bids it is better!why to waste time..what u gonna SPEND is going to be spent so plz save us time!

10. khalil (11 Aug, 2008 - 19:11)

also plz reduce the flash content...text content is faster to reload...

11. Sharra (11 Aug, 2008 - 19:36)

I'm personally not a fan of ET, as it just drags out the auction. But to have it I think a 3 limit is good idea.

12. Carolyn (11 Aug, 2008 - 19:47)

Reducing ET to 3 instead of 10 is more practical. To have ET 10 is too long. The system is still abit slow and I have missed bidding on a few items so continual upgrading of the system would be fantastic. I have had a few false reply's regarding bid statis and missed out on bidding on items as I couldn't get my bids through in time. I too have had alert warnings and when I've clicked onto page there has been nothing to confirm. Regards Carolyn

13. H N (11 Aug, 2008 - 20:21)

Don't have a problem reducing to 3. Not real fussed either way on the search engine, but would probably be used.

14. maria (11 Aug, 2008 - 21:25)

ET3 is a very good idea. 10 only needed when the site so heavy. The flash will help alot of searching but I dont know if it will slow down the site. 100 bids is a beauty of perfect. Bidding for me is pretty fast. Keep it up X5!!

15. benjamin (11 Aug, 2008 - 22:21)

excellent concept ET 3 is a good idea to fast track, too boring to wait, although other bidder will left out, at least if I want the item, Iwill push the bid upfront

16. annie (11 Aug, 2008 - 22:23)

weekend deal is a nice one, but will jeopardise less bid, need advanced advertisement. 500 bids will be good at a time for small auction fee. Page load very fast, never be better. Bank account will help me to keep track for how much I have spent

17. jafar (11 Aug, 2008 - 22:32)

bidding is a bit hiccuph, unless open more cap to 1000 in case for cents bid. Credit Bank is a good idea. Animated flash? if all good, X5 will be best compare to other auctions, ebay, oztion do not use flash, I do not know why. Flash give a lot of exposure, take more download but if you guys can managed well, it will be a bonus to everyone

18. victor (11 Aug, 2008 - 22:41)

yeah, putting search category, as so far I am bit lost in searching, relevancy is very important since you guys have more than thousands of product. Show up numbers on the search on category or something like indicator. Flash banner will do nice, but not too funky. ET 3 is good enough although I like up to 10 for some reason. Keep it up the good work. Work hard guys.

19. wendy (11 Aug, 2008 - 22:59)

hi, i think 3 times is enought for ET as 10 times was way to much, love the idea of weekend autions , and 100 advance bids is plenty. don't think the credit bank is needed.

20. nicole (11 Aug, 2008 - 23:20)

ET3 is definitely an option to be better than 10. It is a perfect concept. Need a lot more traffic to hit 10 at full bidding war. Can change back to 10 or make it more option when 100 bids or 200 bids in last one minute. You guys is rocking with more heavier bandwith you, maybe looking at some other faster track development on 3 spot to bid. Weeekend deal is a spot on especially I am home every weekend.

21. les (12 Aug, 2008 - 00:12)

I love the idea. Putting up relevancy banner, it might help for more relevancy search on every keywords

22. momo (12 Aug, 2008 - 00:16)

I am really not sure by more than 100 bids is good. So far I am happy with all. Speed is fast, except you need more product such as baby stuff, or any gardening. Only my opinion. Relevant search is a must.

23. david (12 Aug, 2008 - 00:18)

ET 10 sometimes do make me little upset, as the waiting list a bit long, make me nervous.3 ET might help a lot to slow down the pressure, but X5 is very good site. I have told a lot of my friends about it

24. Cheryl (12 Aug, 2008 - 07:59)

ER to 3 is much better. I have the same problem regarding alert 1 bid needs confirmation, but after clicking on it, there is nothing there. That started 2 days ago. Happy Bidding

25. Treena (12 Aug, 2008 - 10:49)

This sounds great and a great step forward for X5 DippyAussie

26. ben (12 Aug, 2008 - 11:21)

perhaps i am a bit stupid and because i am new to this site i have no idea what you are talking about perhaps you could email me a simplified version of what this site is about so i can get more involved and excited about it ben

27. Mike (12 Aug, 2008 - 12:23)

Site loads quickly at start, but subsequent reloads take a lot of time.

28. X5 (12 Aug, 2008 - 13:40)

Thank you to All X5 Members Seems we got a very good response of reducing ET 10 to ET 3. We will keep update with all users, incase ET 10 is necessary in the future. ( by thursday 14 Aug) Flash banner, we will keep it less and we will try to implement in different way to keep most product on the page. The new feature of flash static rotation banner will be in placed by end of this week ( the latest). X5 Credit bank account - we will leave it as optional to members to view what they have spend and track back the history - will be on beta version - expected launched 14 Aug Search Engine friendly will be on Beta version and X5 will launch a further follow up on this - expected launch by 14 Aug 2008 Weekend deals will be on planning to carried out. Expected launch Weekend 22/23 Aug 08 X5 page loading, supposed to be faster now compare to previous few days ago. We implemented a cache system that store your previous 24 hours login in X5 and as some of you might have notice last 24 hours page not update. We will work with tech team to keep the update faster. - Expected completion by end of 14 Aug 08 Advanced bid will be limited to 100 as majority still find this is a hiccuph to upgrade more than 100. We will keep posted for more update. X5 Admin

29. Rob (13 Aug, 2008 - 09:22)

I agree with most of these changes as far as I can understand, the bad flow of English and grammar make it hard for me to read and understand though. The wording just appears to back to front or something. I look forward to more understanding of the text. Also if you get some products I am interested in I will even bid on them. Thank you.

30. Les (13 Aug, 2008 - 17:35)

Great responses - good to see so many playing the game. Only one major wish now and that is to update bidding page as bids are made. At present a bidder has to continually refresh the screen to ensure still winning. Cheers & keep the improvements coming Les

31. Mikey (13 Aug, 2008 - 21:09)

Is it possible to spread the finishing time for auctions out a bit more. They seemed to be mostly at the time the Eastern States folks get home from work. This also makes the site very slow to access and refresh at this time.

32. Basil (13 Aug, 2008 - 21:15)

I don't think that having more than 3 extra times encourages people to build. Also, resist the calls to increase the bid limit, as a there are a lot of users that aren't using X5 as a business tool. Otherwise the site is great.

33. L (14 Aug, 2008 - 09:35)

The ET 10 is too many - 3 would be better. Max 100 bids is fine - wouldn't want more.

34. kimberley (14 Aug, 2008 - 10:08)

ET 3 is plenty. 100 bids at a time is plenty site can be very slow to load at times, especially near the end of auctions text is much quicker to load than flash.

35. Tammy (14 Aug, 2008 - 22:34)

Im fairly new to this site. But I love it.Just dont make tooo many changes as Im confused enough sometimes..lol..Great site X5.

36. X5 (15 Aug, 2008 - 14:27)

Update 15 Aug 08 Due to recent comment and more submission ET 3 will be carried up no later than Tuesday. We are working on system stability to ensure all will be fine During this weekend, there will be transition time of ET 10 to ET 3 Please do keep an eye on this. Weekend Deal will be on try out starting on this weekend. We will keep everyone on updated. Regarding flash banner, X5 will from now to keep less flash banner. This is expected to increase the speed of page load. X5 Admin

37. X5 (15 Aug, 2008 - 16:31)

Latest update 15 Aug 2008 4:30pm ET 3 will come to affect today. Please keep an eye on the auction. This is to keep the auction has a shorter life ending More development will be implemented during this weekend 16 to 18 August 2008. Including new interface of X5, better search result, etc. X5 Admin

38. shane (15 Aug, 2008 - 21:20)

I agree with the ET3 as long as it is no longer than 5 mins each. i would also like to see some fishing products up for auction. great job keep it up!

39. Phillip (15 Aug, 2008 - 23:09)

I think that this site is marvellous and it's certainly a change from auction like sites and other similar sites to this one. I know that I'm going to be gladly spending a fair bit of time on this site and bidding as well as it's so reasonably priced.

40. Ronelle (16 Aug, 2008 - 11:30)

The weekend auction is an excellent idea. This is a great auction site and any improvements can only benefit the bidders.

41. david (16 Aug, 2008 - 13:42)

WELL I THINK IT IS A GOOD IDEA AS I WAS WINNING AN AUCTION AND WHEN IT GOT TO THE 1OTH EXTENED TIME I LOST IF I THINK 3 IS OK AS YOU CAN WAIT HALF AN HOUR TO FIND OUT IF YOU HAVE WON ANYTHING HOPE IT GOES WELL

42. Sharra (17 Aug, 2008 - 12:08)

I've had a good experience with x5 and the bidding system and I look forward to changes that make it an even better experience. Good Work!

43. Susan (17 Aug, 2008 - 12:35)

Hi I think it is fantastic that your reducing the ET to 3 from 10. This really shows that you care and listen to your customers opinions. Keep up the good work! Susywong

44. Jackie (17 Aug, 2008 - 16:19)

This is a marvellous site with some really great deals going on here. The feel of the site is smart and easy to work with. I would like X5 to be a big part of my online shopping experience and even outdo eBay which I use a lot.

45. Susan (19 Aug, 2008 - 02:36)

I like all the new ideas, I think it will make the site alot easier to use. I also agree with Jackie about using it more than ebay, which I used to be addicted to. P.S. My bargain of the week, I bid on a norton security program, usually $180 in shops, which I won for $12.01 including postage and when I recieved it there was a sticker on it offering me $30 back, its not often you make money buying something, so this made my day! Cheers Susy

46. jodie (19 Aug, 2008 - 08:45)

x5 is a great site it is a bit slow at times wen u r trying 2 win bids at closing of auctions.et time is great but drags it out a bit

47. Gordon (19 Aug, 2008 - 11:06)

I have been against the up to 100 bids idea, it prejudices the smaller bidder and can create total mayhem in the last few minutes of an auction, personally I prefer the earlier one bid at a time.Keep up the good work!

48. Gordon (19 Aug, 2008 - 11:08)

It is often good to find out how much I lost an auction by, particularly if I have placed a large number of bids. The weekend auction is an excellent idea. This is a great auction site.

49. Kate (19 Aug, 2008 - 18:01)

Whatever changes you have made recently seem to have improved the page loading speed and bid submission. I'm glad the ET has been reduced to 3 because 10 was just too long. Not sure about the news banner idea, isn't that what the "latest news" page is for? I think most of us regularly check the blog and news pages and if not, there is always the most recent article listed on the "my x5" page after you log in. Love the idea of $5 postage category!

50. suzanne (22 Aug, 2008 - 23:37)

I have just recently joined, and the loading speed seems just fine. Do you have a forum where other users can provide hints for newbies on buying at on-line auctions, or answer questions. The weekend auction is a great idea and I think it'll be very popular.

51. delwyn (24 Aug, 2008 - 21:05)

i have just joined but think they should get rid of the 100 advanced bids and put winning bid in for example winning bid is between $2.00-$4.00

52. Kate (29 Aug, 2008 - 20:13)

* ET - Only 3 caps of 5 ET seems reasonable. No longer than that, please! -- Perhaps, on the second and third cap, no new bidders can come in - if they haven't bid already? Also, I think if there's only 1 bidder who bids in the last few mins, there should be NO ET. It doesn't really make sense to extend it, when that person was the only one to bid anyway, and on time. It should only be extended if 2 or more people have bid on the item. * FLASH - I don't think flash is important if it takes up more bandwidth, and slows the site down. * BUGS - as others have pointed out, there's still some bugs: 1. I got told I have a message on an item I had won, but when clicking it I was told that I had not won anything. * ADVANCED BID - Is fine as it is. Anyway just my thoughts, keep up the great work with improvements. :)

53. G (30 Aug, 2008 - 20:28)

Not bothered by the advanced bid, 100 or 200 sounds good, either way. Weekend auctions are brill. Some people don't get a chance to bid in the week, because of work and other commitments. So w/ends are great.

54. k (07 Sep, 2008 - 03:34)

i hope ET time just go or may be 1 ET is more than enough...its our responsibility as bidders to watch the item at its accurate ending time...thankx

55. Giang (07 Sep, 2008 - 11:21)

*ET 3 is much better. Im tired of keep bidding and the auction seems never end. *Search Engine is a good idea *Animated flash: not neccessary, the page is already slow loading * Category: I'm fine with the current category but wouldn't mind the change * Launching every weekend deal: Great idea! * X5 Credit bank account: I hope this will keep me updated my transaction better, the current function is terrible! * 100 or 200 bids are fine. Doesnt matter much to me. Sometimes when i bid, the page did not show up and had to keep refreshing to see the result. Also it would be great if i can save my log in information for a certain amount of time instead of having to enter my username and password everytime I open a new IE window.

58. Kyle (08 Sep, 2008 - 22:29)

the idea sounds great. the ET is a very good idea and so is the search engine

59. jono (09 Sep, 2008 - 04:53)

cool. def make it everyday for auctions.

60. jono (09 Sep, 2008 - 05:01)

(dont think i submitted it correctly sorry if double posting) can you put a date and time the auction ends like, Sat, 13th Oct @ 6.59am.

61. Gerdy (09 Sep, 2008 - 05:23)

Sounds good to me.

62. Elmer (09 Sep, 2008 - 21:04)

can X5 provide a section dedicated to winning items and shipping info? E.g. keeping winning member updated on when their items have been shipped and the tracking number etc.

63. Elmer (09 Sep, 2008 - 21:06)

X5's development with ET and ET2 is quiet ironic, ET is meant to ensure those members who bid on the last minute doesnt lose out and then ET2 discourage members bidding on last few mins by increasing fees? I personally think ET should be scrapped altogether, I dont think any winning bidder want to see 3x5min added on right before the auction ends.

64. Leonie (16 Sep, 2008 - 18:50)

ET 3 is better than ET 10, and 100 bids at one time should be the limit, because for people bidding that much, really don`t need more than a few seconds to do it again, if they need to.

65. Kheang (21 Sep, 2008 - 11:26)

can you fix the problem where it keep logging me out after i logged in. and about topping up credits, can you make it immediately available after i paid for X5 credit rather waiting for a few days?

66. cheryl (22 Sep, 2008 - 17:09)

reducing ET from 10 to 3 is a better idea, although I don't like ET very much, I can be sitting wondering if I'm going to win for up to 20 minutes

67. cheryl (24 Sep, 2008 - 16:41)

Received 5 items that i had won today, came in 2 packages, I had paid $72,00 in postage costs, If you could combine postage it would be a better idea. My packages wouldn't have cost $72.00 to post.

68. cheryl (26 Sep, 2008 - 16:16)

Why not have a mystery auction, don't show the amount of bidders and have a limit on the number of bids placed per person.

69. jenny (26 Sep, 2008 - 21:53)

changing the time down to 3 mins would be great. It is very frustrating waiting the extra time at the end.
